well, last night's sleep was more like a nap.
lang and i decided that skyping our friends and family was more important.
we were extremely tired this morning when we woke up only 3 hours after we had lied down.
but, i would do it again if it meant talking to the people i loved.
and of course, the day we choose to be exhausted, we are faced with a chaotic day of traveling.
at 8:37 this morning, aunt jan, lang and i caught a train out of florence and back to venice.
this was after we grabbed some italian espresso and a pastry.
we then took a bus to the marco polo airport,
a plane to berlin,
a train to the middle of the city,
and a tram to our hotel to meet our class.
it actually wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.
and our professor, john freeman, gave us the best directions we've been given yet.
after getting settled in our room, freeman took the class to see a portion of what's left of the berlin wall.
i attempted to climb it, but in the process, cut my hand.
no worries, mom. i'm fine.
what's beautiful is that we found some poppies growing on the east side of the wall.
after that, we went to prater biergarten, the oldest beer garden in berlin.
lang and i shared some carrot & ginger soup and some pasta salad.
we also enjoyed our first german beer: a weihenstephan (a delicious hefeweissbier).
so far, berlin has been really nice.
a little bit colder than i thought, but all around, it seems pretty cool.
here's the transit loft hotel, where we'll be staying for 2 weeks:
and here's a couple photos from the night around town:
i think i'm going to like it here.
