day 8: hidden treasures.

every day, i fall more and more in love with this place.

it's like berlin has all of these hidden treasures,
and you just need to do a little exploring,
maybe some bike riding,
and you'll find something that amazes you.

today, we went on a fat tire bike tour.
our guide was blakley ("bakery").
a ucf graduate, ironically.

and my bike was named cool hand luke.

he took us on the "berlin wall" tour.
and it was the most fun i've had since i've been here.

we got to see parts of the city that i would have never expected.
and it was all so beautiful.

we started off by riding down karl-marx-allee.

then, we stopped by the longest portion of the wall that has been left in its original place.
this year, berlin is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the wall.
they are restoring this strip and have asked the artists to come back and re-paint their murals.

it translates as, "politics is the continuation of war by other means."

the other big stop we made was at treptower park and soviet memorial.

this memorial is for the 20 million soviets that died in WWII.
they were the last to stay before the war ended.

tonight, we're going to a play/musical.
it's in german. it should be interesting, to say the least.
