day 5: thank you, annie.

this morning, we were supposed to spend the morning on a fat tire bike tour,
but the weather had other plans for us.
because of the rain though, we were able to go see the annie leibovitz exhibit.
i can't even begin to explain how much this photographer has inspired and challenged me.
her work makes me feel something inside that nothing else can.
she says herself that you can't capture the essence of someone in a photograph;
life's much more complicated than that.
but, you can catch a glimpse of who they are.
in a moment, you can capture a tiny piece of what's inside of them.

i hope that one day i can feel as if i've been able to catch a tiny moment of who someone is in a photograph.
a tiny moment of life.

after spending not enough time at the exhibit, we went to see a church that had been bombed out during WWII.

then, some of us enjoyed some noodles and egg rolls for lunch.
on the way home, i was able to experience my first german protest. : )
they were protesting capitalism.
later tonight, after a little resting, we all went to the carnival that was in town.
i enjoyed some bread and a corn on the cob for dinner.
(germany isn't as vegetarian-friendly as italy.)

the nights are pretty cold here. i think it was somewhere in the 40's or so.
i think i'll need to go buy a jacket soon.

oh, and my favorite thing about berlin so far is the public transportation.
it's so easy and everyone uses it, if they're not riding bikes or walking.
i love it.

here's some others from the day:
